Designed to sit alongside the Deans for Impact second edition(opens in a new tab), adding evidence grades, grade-band application, and practice.
| Week | Topic | Read | Practice assignment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | How memory works; myths | Principles 1, myths page | Explain the memory model to a peer in two minutes, no notes |
| 2 | Explicit teaching and worked examples | Principles 2, 3 | Plan and teach a 10-minute micro-lesson using I do, we do, you do |
| 3 | Checking and feedback | Principles 4, 5 | Run whiteboard checks in a field placement; record what you changed |
| 4 | Retrieval, spacing, mixing | Principles 6–8 | Build a unit review planner for your placement classroom |
| 5 | Reading and knowledge | Principles 9, 10 | Map one knowledge unit with text set and vocabulary |
| 6 | Evaluating evidence | Evidence bar page; one evidence file | Grade a popular teaching claim using the four grades |
Final assessment: a recorded 15-minute lesson using the lesson shape, scored with the five-minute visit card, plus a written reflection citing the evidence for three choices.
Mississippi required early literacy coursework in teacher preparation as part of its reforms (SREB(opens in a new tab)); this module is the cross-subject version.
